Here is what you need to know to plan your trip to our beautiful country. Please read through all the information thoroughly, and feel free to contact us if you need any further details.
Malaria
Please consult your local doctor. We were born and raised in South Africa and have never taken malaria medication. While this does not mean there is no risk of malaria, over the past two decades, we’ve had clients who have chosen not to take malaria medication again because it makes them feel drowsy. They have returned year after year without it. Please note that we will take no responsibility if you decide not to take the medication.
Immunization
No immunization is required when entering South Africa.
Inoculation against Yellow Fever may be required for visitors coming from certain African countries. Please inquire with your Professional Hunter.
Hepatitis A: The CDC recommends this vaccine, as you can contract Hepatitis A through contaminated food or water in South Africa, regardless of where you are eating or staying.
Flights
Flights depart from either Newark, NJ (United) or Atlanta, GA (Delta) and arrive at O.R. Tambo International Airport (Johannesburg International Airport). A connecting flight will be required from O.R. Tambo to Gateway International Airport in Polokwane. Please note that the reverse will apply upon departure.
Newark / Atlanta to Johannesburg:
Flights arrive in the late afternoon, around 5 to 7 pm. Wild Game Safaris recommends that you overnight at the City Lodge Hotel at O.R. Tambo to ensure a good night’s sleep.
The next morning, you will catch the 9:30 am flight to Polokwane, where Wild Game Safaris will collect you. You should arrive at the lodge by noon, allowing enough time for rifle or bow shooting before heading out for an afternoon hunting shift.
Departure from the USA via Europe is also an option; however, our experience indicates that clients have been dissatisfied with this choice.
Please note that when traveling with children under 18 years, you typically need to have an unabridged birth certificate to enter any foreign country. Make sure to confirm with your Home Affairs office whether this is required.
On departure day, please arrange your travel itinerary to ensure your flight departs by 11 am from Polokwane. A later departure will incur a daily fee charge.
Please find the contact details for Shawn Kennedy from Gracy Travel International, who can assist you with travel arrangements.
